VoteX has gone through a lot right from the first release right back in January 24th 1998, just to show how commited I am to produce the BeSt stuff I can for Daydream BBS, I've worked hard on this door, and will continue to do so, as long as I get the feedback & suggestions . I've got some feedback from various people all around europe, regarding my first version of VoteX, most of which were complaints and bug reports . But I made sure most of them got the newer versions, with tons of bugs fixed. That's when the complaints started disappearing, and have been replaced with suggestions and people that wanted part of VoteX . By then I realised that I have to be a bit more strict rather than my previous `happy-go-lucky' attitude, that was in a way the reason I was slightly harsh towards a lot of people . Anyhow, the lack of BETA testers was the main problem, I have to BETA test the stuff myself mostly . I know that some people that are reading this ( You guys that wrote ) will complain that I didn't send them up-to-date versions of this door, but hey, some didn't even suggest or do anything with the previous versions ! And that's why I had to be harsh in a way, lots of people say they want to BETA test, but all they do is get the program off me and check it out once or twice, and the rest is history .... I hope you guys understand the real meaining of BETA testing, iow, just smash the program as hard as you can, try to find the bugs, let them out, and report them . So, checkout the BETA tester request .. Anyway, VoteX has been a pleasure working on, and I will continue to put a lot of effort into it's forthcoming versions . --- On With The Show --- @endnode @node new " VoteX v1.52 -- What's New -- " Since the last released version quite a lot, you can check the History for that, but the changes related to this version aren't many ... First, the new menu is a lot nicer, the old one was very wEiRd and a lot of people hated it, some of which suggested to make the ANSIs for me, but most of them didn't understand why the ANSI I made sucked, it was because I CAN NOT PUT A CHARECTER AFTER THE DAMN SUBJECT ! ELSE, WITH EACH SUBJECT THE CHARECTER WILL MOVE !!! Now, I don't know if you understood that, but whether you do, or don't, I don't care ... Other than the ANSIs, the size has decreased dramatically, just past 12Kb . Considering that v0.92 was just over 14Kb, well, that version was a rush, I didn't care about keeping the file small. As for this version, I have started work on the `optimization' part, I will try to make VoteX smaller all the time, it will be tough, and don't suspect to end up with a door under 10K, because from now on the minimum size of VoteX will be 13K+ . Some slight mini-tincy little bugs fixed, mostly text errors ... But that has been taken care of . @endnode @node Install " VoteX v1.52 -- Installation -- " Unlike the previous VoteX release, this one has a two cute installer scripts for you all, even though surprisingly, no-one suggested it ! Oh well . System Requirements : ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ A1200 onwards ... ( didn't test it on A500 or A600 ) Daydream v1.27 onwards ( didn't test it on previous versions ) Some ram ... The standard 2Mb Chip is fine ... Harddisk .. Well, that's for Daydream, not neccesarily VoteX .. Installation ~~~~~~~~~~~~ If you had a previous version of VoteX (iow, v0.92) then you can select restore152 to install the new version, and restore all the data from the old version ( nice eh ? ) . Or select Install152 if you want to install it for new . Then you'll have to alter you're external Commands I guess .. Add a line like : Doors:Rexx %N doors:votex/votex152.dd That should do it ... Or you can install the enitre thing manually by making a directory in DOORS: called VoteX, then copy all the files in the archive to it and add the previous line to the external thinige ... I hope the scripts made the hassle less in away, ;) @endnode @node how2play " VoteX v1.52 -- How 2 use it -- " Well, in short, lots of commands, I'm not in a nice mood to actually explain everything, for GOD's sake, it's past 2:30 am ! A view, is like an openYun . A Vote is your final diSishon ! SysOp is the boss in the overall, behave and all's okay ... @endnode @node bugs " VoteX v1.52 -- Known Bugs -- Well, so far only one known bug ... The Node sometimes crashes mysteriously when changing the subject, if it happens to YOU, then just restart the computer or Node ( if possible ) and change it, it should be fixed . WeiRd BuG . If you do find any other, do you're thing and contact me . @endnode @node future " VoteX v1.52 -- Future VoteX Releases -- " Well, I've decided that everone that drops me a line shal recieve the unreleased versions which will be from v1.53 till v1.59, which will be under the theme of `optimization' I will try to optimize the code as much as I can in those versions . VoteX v1.9 or so will include `themes', allowing more than one subject to be voted on, maybe three, but I'm considering five . I'll also make a few changes like the enability for the users to see who voted for what, and will keep that only for the SysOp . I'm also looking into making the the Vote Count show the votes in percentage rather than number . VoteX v2.0, well this version most probably will be a re-write, ten times more optimized version, and will have the same features, and a few other new things like : * Checking to see if a specified user is online . * Two end confrontation option, allows to confront each other, semi-dialoge style, and allows everyone to see it . * New quicker subject changing techniques ( could be implemented in earlier versions ) So far that's it . But if you have any suggestions, then drop me a line, and remember, You're suggestions will hopefully be implemented sooner rather than later, most probably by version 2.0, as I said that version will be a remake of the entire door . @endnode @node history " VoteX v1.52 -- VoteX History -- " The History of VoteX, the Voting door for Daydream BBS . VoteX v0.50 (Not released) The initial structure for VoteX, only creates a log for votes, and a `Built-in' subject. VoteX v0.92 (Released) Major changes, first being the inclusion of views, for and against . The voting procedure changed slightly, as two file (1 for & 1 against) to seperate both voters . External Subject file, to make the SysOp change the subject at his/her will . And the original MENU VoteX v1.1 (Not released) The inclusion of the SysOp menu to make the changing of the subject & SysOp's view as simple as possible, iow, got rid of the hassle the SysOp has to go through just to create a new subject . VoteX v1.5 (Not released) The major implementation in this version is the enability for the user to vote more than once, which was the problem from version 0.92 onwards . Also, all the files for VoteX have been moved into their own directory, makes life a lot easier when looking for files, a lot easier . Also, new installer scripts added to ease installation . VoteX v1.52 (Released) Newer ANSIs, and a slightly more optimized code, however, still bigger than previous versions . Small forgotten thing regarding SysOp view when changing the subject, now fixed . Plan for subject menu in the future @endnode @node ME " VoteX v1.52 -- About The Author -- " I don't know why I put this really, but oh well, some people out there might be interested . Well, according to the release date, my sixteenth birthday just passed two days ago, on th 18th . I am a sixteen year old Amiga ~ Daydream fanatic . I've been working on tons of doors since the end of January `98 ( Less than a month ago ) . And will hopefully continue to do so . Nothing much really to say, other than the fact that I'm going to hate myself soon, very soon . Why ? Well, because there hasn't been a NotePad Amiga released, if PAWS would release one then that'd be cool, I'm leaving to Canada next year . And I will not be able to take my Amiga with me, which reminds me, my Amiga is an A1200 with an apollo card 030 25Mhz + 4Mb RAM, soon to be 8Mb, and a nice cute 540Mb HD . I will continue to release Daydream Doors no matter what ! But my parents don't want me taking my Amiga with me, so I'll have to start saving some money so when I got Canada I can perchase a keWl Note Pad Amiga, or even an Amiga on a card thingie, but then the University there will kill me if I use it (damn!) . So ladies and Gentelmen, if you want me to go through a few more years of door programing, then please beg Amiga Int. to consider dumping a Note Pad or Lap Top Amiga project on someone ;) . As long as it is PPC though ... @EndNoDe @Node beta " VoteX v1.52 -- BETA Testers request -- " If there is anyone out there that has used any of my doors, and would like to see them grow, then he/she can help by being a BETA tester, if you do want to become a BETA tester then all you have to do is abide by the following regulations : * You shall recieve every new version of the door you have agreed to BETA test . * You must report any bugs or errors with all appropreate details that you think (or don't) are releated to the error . * You must suggest any ideas that you think should be implemented in future versions of the door you are testing . * I will take no responsability in any damage caused to your computer, whether caused by ignorence or carelessness, unless appropreate evidence that proves the author to have done so, which only the author can judge upon . * Your name will be included in the credits and @{"special thanks" Link thanku} in the release of the door, as long as you have contributed in any way to its release . If you accept these rules than you are welcomed as an official BETA tester . Else, that is entirely up to you . @endnode @node other " VoteX v1.52 -- Other Non-VoteX Releases -- " There is a series of other doors that I've already created and are more than worth the download time from the Aminet . SToryC, a nice door for BBS with a decent amount of users. Every user adds a line as part of a story, as the story grows it will become more and more complete, and ten times the fun with every new line added . You can also download the story and read it for yourself at any time ! SS98, Soccer ShootOut `98, choose a goalkeeper, and start shooting away, see how good you are when facing some of the world's toughest keepers. SU, Simpe door that is only 209 bytes in size !! It is put as a login door that checks if the SysOp is available or not, and gives the reason for not being available, very small, but at the same time very useful . Desc, Descussions, a nice descussions door that when combined with VoteX can create miracles ! Allows the users to choose a subject and talk about it, they can also suggest subjects, and download views . Great door . Friend, a weird door, just enter it and talk to the computer, all the computer will do is listen though, make sure you check out the latest versions of all these doors, as they will constantly change, and also the decriptions here will also change with all the newer versions . If you want to get the latest versions of these door, whether to check them out or to be a BETA tester, just @{"contact the author"link contact} Other doors that are under development : LameC, a fake chat clone that with personalities and also creates log files for all the conversations . Weirdo's Boxing, a boxing game with an attitude, direct comentary and special moves too . P.O.Box : 3174 Manama, Bahrain . ~~~~~~ or by ICQ : Username : Xpose UIN : 8062781 Remember, any method is fine ... ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- * Fries & BBQ sauce are a trademark by Xpose, illegal use of this trademark should and will lead to serious concequences . ;) . @endnode @node konk " VoteX v1.52 -- Conclusion -- " Finally, I would like to conclude the following, The Amiga, -unlike PCs- is a computer that can stand the test of time, a computer that no matter how aged or old, or rusty, can out run ANY PC, ANY day ! Evidence to that, the Amiga games that were released for classic A1200 did outrun a lot of PC games . Just sowing off with StrangersAGA to my PC owning friends, now they are ALWAYS over at my place ... ( Wonder why ? ) As for Daydream, it shall remain to be one of the best BBS programs available for the Amiga, opinions might deffer, but I give NO damn ! I will continue to create doors for Daydream, Arexx or C, and will continue to try and stretch Daydream's already available doors, and will consider myself the No.1 doors creator for this BBS program, providing tons of doors for free, without any hassle . Just pure doors, for a pure program . I hope I made someone's day out there .. --------- This door has been released on the 20th of February `98 --------- @endnode
