This great piece of shit FORMAT your hard drive faster than the light !!!! It made a low level format of my 1 Giga Hd in about 30 minutes !!!! I don't have the solution to destroy it but I can tell you how to see if it's in your system: - Run Virus-X from Steve Tibbets or Virus-Checker, they can detect it but unfortunatly they can't wipe it from the system. - Look at your fast & chip memory displayer, if the virus is present, you'll see " LD " instead of the normal memory capacity. - When the virus is in the system, your machine is going to make lots of gurus without reasons, but that's not a problem. The problem is comming now: after some gurus you'll see that your Amiga refuse to boot normaly and that's the beginning of the end for your precious datas. In fact this shitty Gremlins had started to format your Hd and the only solution to bust it is to reformat your whole hard drive to clean it. - Another problem is that I don't know where this virus is hidding himself. I made the classic controls (Commands, Disk Validator, ...) but I don't find anything. The only suspect file was the FastFileSystem of my A3000 which refuse to work so it's possible that he was here but it's also possible that the Gremlins destroyed it before. So now I reformat my hard drive and I hope that I don't see this piece of shit anymore and if somebody has more information about it or have an antivirus for it, please let me know or U/l it everywhere. DRAGON / M.A.D ============================================================================= LAST WORD : DON'T D/l THE LAST VERSION OF XCOPY, IT CONTAINS THE VIRUS !!!! ============================================================================= I downloaded the above file and found most of this true, however the virus did not format My HD. I ran about ten different Virus protection programs and none got rid of it. Two or Three detected it and all they said was that it was in the system mem and in the vectors. I went crazy all weekend trying to get rid of it. Alas sunday night at about 11:00 I finally got rid of the damn GREMLINS VIRUS!!! First delete the STUPID xcopy program. Then check your s directory and c directory files. Look at the date and times. Delete any files that are recently dated (since the date you got the xcopy to the present date/time). I found a file called D, I have no idea why it was in my c or s directory. If you have this file delete it. Also I was trying to run parnet shortly after the virus was activated in my system, and I was having mounting problems. I discovered that the mount file in the c directory was very small, about 208 bytes! It should be 5,000 - 6,000 depending on 1.3 or 2.0 dos. Well anyhow I dug out my WB disk and was going to copy the mount file from the disk to the HD. Well this virus would not let me delete the 208 byte mount file. I could not move it rename it or even drop it into trashcan or blackhole. I eventually booted off my wb disk and deleted it from the HD. I found when turning off the computer then booting off a disk, like wb the virus is not activated. So boot off wb or another use a directory utillity and delete the mount file in your c directory then copy the one from your WB disk. Reboot your machine and the virus should be gone. I have run the 2 programs that could detect it and they nolonger do!! Virus checker 6.23 and virus scan and boot x all saw it. GOOD LUCK!!! =============================================================================== The information above is 100% accurate,but I was concerned that the author of the second paragraph left it unsigned,and so you might be inclined to ignore it. I myself checked for any new files that might have been the virus,but found none.. All I did was load Dir opus through a floppy version of workbench and deleted the mount file (which was 208 bytes) and copied the mount file from workbench (which is 6588 bytes on kickstart 3.0) However I couldnt find the file called D anywhere (though it was there previously with a date mark of "TODAY") I rebooted the system and found the virus was still resident,so tried the procedure again...only this time I deleted the D file first and then the mount file.
